Electricity supplies for Marinas
Here is the latest we have on the Government's help for domestic electricity users, as it applies to marinas where individual boats get their electricity from the marina rather than directly from electricity suppliers.
There are 4 different benefits:
1. £150 Council Tax benefit - already paid to your bank account by your local council.
2. £400 electricity benefit - to be paid to boat residents, though the payment mechanism isn't decided yet (domestic consumers get it directly from their electricity company). https://www.gov.uk/guidance/getting-the-energy-bills-support-scheme-discount
3. Small business scheme ending 31/3/23, expected to limit price to 21p per KWh https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-outlines-plans-to-help-cut-energy-bills-for-businesses . 21p seems a bit too good to be true so read the link carefully. This benefit will be paid to your marina so you will need to find out how they plan to pass it on to you.
4. Domestic price cap at 34p per KWh. 41p from April 2023 to April 2024*. Anyway many houseboats get their electricity via their marina so won't benefit from it, unless they get their electricity directly from an electricity company.
*Announced in the Budget 17/11/22.
